The state health department added 60 confirmed cases for a total of 154 since May 1, when officials began identifying an outbreak of the gastrointestinal illness around the country.

The FDA says lettuce distributed by Taylor Fresh Foods and Taylor Farms de Mexico is still linked to the multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis. But the source may be difficult to definitively trace.

Most of the recalled lettuce was distributed to the food service customers, but two lots were under Walmart's Marketside brand. Do not eat recalled iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico.

A USF professor of environmental health biology says funding cuts scaled back the CDC's FoodNet surveillance network, reducing monitoring of foodborne illnesses such as cyclosporiasis.

The CDC says about 48 million people a year in the country are sickened by foodborne illness.
