Family Of Woman Who Died Outside Hospital Files Lawsuit

The family of a woman who died outside a hospital after she was forcibly removed by police has filed a lawsuit against the hospital, two of its former employees, the City ofBlountstownand a formerBlountstownPolice officer.

Frances Scott, who is the personal representative of the estate of Barbara Dawson, filed a federal lawsuit on Friday alleging four counts - false imprisonment, lack of emergency care, battery and a civil rights claim.

On Dec. 21, the 57-year old Dawson died of a blood clot in her lungs after collapsing in the parking lot of Liberty-Calhoun Hospital while being handcuffed. Dawson refused to leave the emergency room after complaining of shortness of breath.

Tallahassee attorney Daryl Parks of the law firm Parks & Crump is representing Dawson's family.
