New College Gets a New President

Mount Holyoke College

Donal B. O'Shea has been chosen to be the next president of New College of Florida in Sarasota.  The school's Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favor of the appointment on Saturday.

Dr. O'Shea comes to Sarasota from South Hadley, Massachusetts, where he is the dean of faculty and vice president for Academic Affairs at Mount Holyoke College.

He is also a renowned mathematician, known internationally for his work in singularity theory and computational algebraic geometry.

If the Florida Board of Governors approves his appointment, O'Shea will succeed Gordon E. Michalson, Jr., who will retire July 1st.  The board will take up the appointment next Thursday, March 22nd.
