Schools in the Tampa Bay area are re-examining their security in the wake of the shooting today at a Connecticut elementary school.
The Chief Operating Officer for Sarasota County Schools says he's not sure they can do anything differently, other than conducting a mental checklist of where holes could be in their security. Scott Lempe says security is never going to be perfect.
"I think probably the biggest thing we can do is, whatever your role is in a school - a teacher, a staff member, an administrator - if you see something that doesn't look like, do something about it," he says.
"If you see someone who looks like they don't belong, feel comfortably in challenging them - why are you here, why do you not you have a visitor's badge, that sort of thing."
Lempe says when something like this happens, schools have to ask themselves what more they can do to protect their students - such as checking out everyone who has access to the children.
