The prospect of Hurricane Dorian dumping inches of rain across the region has prompted several public school districts to add an extra day off this Labor Day weekend.
Students in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk and Citrus counties will be closed on Tuesday, with Polk County also closing on Wednesday with forecasts calling for Dorian to make landfall along the east coast and cutting north across the middle of the state.
Officials will monitor conditions before determining whether schools will still be closed on Wednesday.
Forecasts call for tropical storm-force winds and potentially flooding rains as the hurricane slowly makes its way through the state.
Other school districts have yet to announce their plans.
