HART is charging once again after the route from USF to downtown Tampa was free last year under a pilot program.

PSTA is proposing an express bus route with continuous service between downtown St. Petersburg and Tampa International Airport. A new cross-bay ferry service is already set to launch in 2026.

Hillsborough's transit agency said the new buses will reduce annual maintenance spending by more than $1 million, improve on-time performance and reduce harmful emissions.

Under the proposed legislation, Florida would join the Southern Rail Commission, a group of representatives from Southern states who lobby for passenger and cargo rail.

"My biggest concern is that with so many people moving here and driving cars and not wanting to give the cars up, because we really don't have the public transportation in place," said Sharon Tagle.

The money was held in escrow since a judge ruled the sales tax approved by voters in 2018 was null and void after being challenged by then-County Commissioner Stacy White.
